Christian Almodovar began his professional career at an early age in Malaga, in the conservatory and also with the dance company of Miguel de los Reyes and with many other Malagueñan artists. He studied in Madrid with Silvia Mira, Paco Romero, Pedro Azorín, Ciro, Guito, Manolete and Manuel Reyes. He went on to develope his own style and become know as an influential teacher and soloist. Mr. Almodovar performed for television and film along with many important dancers and singers. He traveled to all of the major cities of the world with diverse companies, including Ballet de Murcia de Merche Esmeralda, were he interpreted the role of Creon in Medea for three years. He also toured with companies of Paco Peña, Ballet de la Zarzuela, Guito, Manolete, Ballet España Paco Romero, Ballet de María Rosa, Rafael Aguilar, Cumbre Flamenca, Losadas, Antonio Canales, Joaquin Cortés and Merche Esmeralda. Mr. Almodovar has collaborated with many companies, as choreographer and guest artist, including Fuego Flamenco (USA) and Kahtkak – fusion with Cañizares and a group of Indian musicians. In the La Fortuna Madrid Festival of 2006 he presented a work based on the painting El Jaleo by John Singer Sargent with his own group to tour Brasil, the U. S., Canada, France, Japan, Italy, and Colombia.

 

Mr. Almodovar has won awards in Flamenco competitions such as the prize of best dancer of the year for the Yerbabuena Center in California. He recently directed and danced in the opening of the Bullfight of Valencia, Venezuela. He has worked in many flamenco tablaos, including Café de Chinitas and Coral de la Moreira in Madrid as well as in Toronto, Canada and at “El Flamenco” in Tokyo, Japan.

 

Mr. Almodovar works throughtout Spain and worldwide as a soloist with many Flamenco Companies as well as teaching workshops. He continues presenting his work El Jaleo with music by Juan Padilla y Losada, the work Música a Cinco where he unites diverse styles of dance and life and is currently working on a new work revisiting his roots in Málaga and merging Flamenco singing and dance with bullfighting themes.
